I attended Snow Hill Elementary School for 3rd - 5th grades, Brown Middle School for 6th-8th grades, and Red Bank High School for 9th-12th grades. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family Studies with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education from Carson-Newman College in 2001. I received a Masters in Education with a Reading Specialist emphasis from UTC in 2008.

I began teaching as soon as I graduated from college in December 2001. My first interim assignment was a fourth grade classroom at Piedmont Elementary in Dandridge, TN. From February-May 2002, I taught Kindergarten at the same school in Dandridge. In August 2002 I began my first permanent teaching position in Kindergarten at Talbott Elementary. In the fall of 2004, I was transferred to second grade to accommodate the needs of the school at the time. In the fall of 2005, I was transferred to first grade for the same reason. In the spring of 2006, I had my first son and took a year of maternity leave the following school year. In the 2007-2008 school year, I took a sabbatical to obtain my Reading Specialist license and Masters Degree. In 2008 I returned to the classroom to teach advanced and standard Language Arts classes in 6th grade at Jefferson Middle School in Jefferson City, TN. From 2009-2012, I taught Read 180 to 6th-8th grade students at Jefferson Middle who were struggling readers. From 2012-2015 I was the Reading Specialist at Westside Elementary School serving students in 3rd-5th grades in several capacities. In 2015-2016 I began the Hamilton County portion of my teaching career as an ELA/SS teacher in 5th grade!
