Masters of Elementary Education:  Reading Specialist UTC

Bachelor of Seconday Education:  English UTC

Certified K-12 English

Nationally Certified in Elementary and Middle School Literacy

I have taught high school and college English for 7 years.  I started at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas and then moved to Hamilton County where I taught at Red Bank High, Central High, and Chattanooga State.  I then taught at Rivermont Elementary, Wolftever Creek Elementary, and Snow Hill Elementary.  I have taught kindergarten, second, third, fourth, and fifth grades at the elementary level.

I'm excited to start my 23rd year teaching.  This year I will be teaching second grade.  Although I started my career by being a high school and college English instructor, I moved to teaching elementary school soon after my children were born.  I have a Masters degree in elementary education as a reading specialist, and  I'm nationally certified in literacy of the middle and elementary grades.  My goal is to help children fall in love with reading and writing through the use of puppetry and reader's theater.

My husband, Jim, and I have been married thirty-one years and we're blessed with two wonderful children.  Our oldest, Andrew, is also a teacher, and our daughter, Katie Jo, is a junior at UTK studying architecture.  I also have one precious grandson named Mason.  We recently adopted an adorable little papillon named Abby.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cooking, reading, hiking, and writing.
