We want to wish all of our Snow Hill families a safe and happy Summer Break!

SUMMER FAQ
We know that families have many questions that arise over the summer, so here are some of the most common questions and answers!

Do I need to do anything to register my child for school next year if they are already a K-5 student?
Yes! All students' information needs to updated in PowerSchool for the next school year. Your child's PowerSchool letter with the access information was sent home at the beginning of May.
Go to https://bit.ly/returning2324

Where do I find my child's school supply list?
School supplies lists can be found by going to https://bit.ly/SHSchoolSupplies
Please do not look for the lists by Googling. There are some scammer sites that post incorrect lists in order to redirect families to expensive items or brands from online sellers. You can avoid this by using our direct link.

When can I register my child online?
Returning Students
 - Parents can update student information in the PowerSchool Parent Portal May 1 through May 31, 2023. The registration link will then close and will not reopen until after the PowerSchool rollover the third week of July.
New Students - Students who are new to the district for the 23-24 school year can register online after June 1, 2023.

When is the in-person registration support day?
Returning Students - Parents can come to the school on Thursday, August 3 from 5-7 PM or Friday, August 4 from 1-3 PM to confirm registration, fill out local paperwork, meet the teacher, and drop off school supplies.
New Students - Parents can come to the school on Friday, August 4 from 1-3 PM or 5-7 PM to get support or confirmation of registration, fill out local paperwork, get information on transportation/arrival/dismissal procedures, get added to a class, and drop off school supplies.

When will my Kindergartener meet their teacher and drop off their school supplies?
In addition to the New Student registration support, we also ask our Kindergarten families to add to their calendar a Meet the Teacher/Supplies Drop Off night just for Kindergarteners that will happen after the Kindergarten students complete phase-in. Waiting until after phase in for Kindergarten class placements allows all Kindergarten teachers to get to know the students and for class placements to be made in a balanced and personalized manner. We will hold this event on Wednesday, August 16 from 6-7 PM.

When is the first day of school?
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 9th.

How do I find my child's bus stop?
Click here to go to the Transportation page, where you can look up your stop.

Need support with the registration process?
Parents and families who have questions about the registration process are encouraged to contact our registration hotline at 423-498-5437 or 423-498-6744 for the Spanish hotline. Hotline hours are from 2:30 to 6:00 PM on weekdays. If you have an urgent question outside of these hours, you may call the school. Registration questions are also welcome at [email protected]

Approaching (with an iReady score above the 40th percentile)
Students scoring "Approaching" who also scored above the 40th percentile on the reading portion of the iReady universal screener are eligible for an appeal. (See below.)

Approaching

Students scoring "Approaching" who did not score above the 40th percentile on the reading portion of the iReady universal screener should attend Summer Reach or they will have to have tutoring added to their schedule for all of the 2023-2024 school year in order to promote to 4th grade.

Below
Students scoring "Below" Expectations are required to attend Summer Reach and will have to have tutoring added to their schedule for all of the 2023-2024 school year in order to promote to 4th grade.

The district has sent out communications to all students eligible for appeals, as well as students that scored "Below" Expectations. If you have questions about your child's status, please email Principal Pringle at [email protected]
